As a mascara junkie, I'm always out on the look for the next best one. When it comes to mascara, I don't discriminate between high end and drug store versions. I believe that there are good mascaras to be found at any price. I was sent Marcelle newest mascara Power Volume to try out. I've been using this for just under two month and thought it was time for a fair review:

mascara

Overall, I like this mascara. It's super black and makes my lashes (which are already long) super duper long. It does not smudge or flake on me. It took me some time to get used to the brush. It's more of a cone shaped brush that I'm not accustomed too. Most mascara's I use have thin and straight brushes. Once I got the hands of it though the application became a breeze.

I would say my only gripe with it is that it's not the most volumizing mascara I've tried. It gives some volume but mostly length. I get even more compliments on my long lashes when I wear this mascara. For $11.00 CAD, this is a great overall mascara. I will be purchasing when I run out of my original tube.

Have you tried Marcelle Power Volume Mascara? What are you thoughts?

Here's another quick Halloween look for you guys. I was pretty tired when I did this look which worked in my favour as I was going for a beaten and bruised look. Here's a peak, don't freak out! Not how I look like normally, lol:

mmm

I basically used my normal foundation (MUFE HD 118) with a bit of white face powder to pale out my skin. Then I countoured my face, nose and inner eye area using my Copperplate and Poison Pen eyeshadows. I created the bruised eyes using MUFE #58 and #39 and a bit of MAC Graphology. I applied mascara to upper and lower lashline and erased the lips using Lise Watier Portfolio and dabbed a bit of Nars Damned on top. Made the hair a lil messy too so it goes with the whole look.

Let me know what you guys think. Have a happy Halloween :)

I finally wore my Rajasthan duo yesterday! I cannot believe that I'v had this duo in my collection for over 2 months and forgot to use it. This is definitely a sign that I should slow down on the makeup buys. I love this duo though, both sides are so pigmented and work well together and even better if you add a pop of bright blue (like I did).

Hope you guys enjoy this look. I'm gonna try and do another Halloween look tonight to post for Friday :)

Happy Thursday beauties! We have a new poll on our hands today as per every Thursday. I'm back to a better mood so I was actually able to sit down and think about this one.

It's no secret that I'm all about my lipsticks. Lipstick is the first item of makeup I ever wore (this is back in my goth teenage years when I wore a black lipstick) and I still cannot have enough of my lippie love. I tend to experiment a lot with my lip combinations. I love to try out different shades and create my own with variation of liners, lipsticks and lipglosses. I wear anything from super duper nudes a la MAC Myth, bright corals like Chanel Genial, retro reds like Nars Dragon Girl or dark vampy shades like MAC Night Violet. I feel like I can pretty much pull off any shades,....well, almost! There's a certain shade called "brown" that I cannot for the life of get to look good on me. I've tried bronzey browns, caramel browns and dark chocolate browns and they're all disastrous on my complexion. I think I've just given up on that shade! I'm thinking light medium skintone with neutral undertones and pigmented pink lips + brown lipstick = bad idea!

Is there any shade of lip colour that you feel you cannot get to work for you? Feel free to select more than one answer and elaborate in comments :)

Hey lovelies! I'm dealing with some frustrating personal issues right now (health and family both unfortunately) so I'm not feeling very creative. I've been waking up every day recently just blankly staring at my makeup without getting inspired which is soooo rare for me. I usually end up putting on some kind a face but definitely nothing original.

I thought I share this look with you anyway so you know I'm alive, lol! I just am dealing with a lot right now. Hope you are all having better days than me.

Hey lovelies! As promised in my last post, here's a swatch of Illamsqua's Viridian from their fall collection. This is a shimmery green shade that in some lights, I coulda sworn I saw some blue particles in it but in my pic it looks mostly like a gorgeous forest green. This is my first experience with Illamasqua nail polishes and I must say I'm super impressed. I like the brush and the handle is very sturdy. The formula was excellent, not thick of watery. One coat gave me a very opaque finish.

Here's the one coater swatch for you. This is after two days of wear (no top coat):

Illa

I wish we had Illamasqua here in Canada so I could get more :(

October 25, 2010

Here's part two of my NYC makeup haul. I bought more than just Inglot makeup, lol! Obviously, some of the stuff I coulda bought here in Ottawa but somehow ended up getting in my trip. I definitely wanted to get some Illamasqua as the Sephora's in Canada don't carry that brand.

Here's the lot:

np
1. Illamasqua nail polish in Viridian - This is such a gorgeous shade of blue green. It's one of the two polishes in their fall collection and the one I was most drawn to. I haven't worn it yet but I will soon and post my NOTD.

illicit
2. Illamsqua Pure pigments in Illicit - I'd heard raves about this shade and had to pick it up. It's like a less orange-y and more pigmented version of Amber Lights. I've used this already and you need only a tiny bit. Awesome buy!

lips
3. Illamasqua Hermetic Intense Lipgloss - You all know my love of vampy lips and as expected, I picked up this gorgeous pigmented plummy lipgloss from Illamasqua's fall collection. We really need Illamasqua here in Canada, c'mon!

15
4. MUFE Rouge Artist Intense in #15 - I picked this up from the MUFE pro store in the Soho Sephora. It's available in all Sephora's and not sure why I waited so long to get a bright purple lipstick. I wasn't 100% sold on this shade on my lips but it seems like ppl like it on me.

gold
5. MUFE Gold eye kohl - this is a nice and pigmented gold kohl that blends super easy. It's great for brightening the tear duct area. I love the MUFE pencils much more than Urban Decay's. I think they last much longer.

chanel
6. Chanel Pleasing Glossimer - Chanel makeup is much cheaper in the US and hence I picked up this bronzey pink shade from Bloomindale's. It's the most pigmented gloss in the Chanel holiday collection and not a shade I have dupes for in my collection.

and here's a swatch of everything (except for the nail polish):

Top to bottom, left to right: Illicit, gold e/k, Hermetic, Pleasing and MUFE #15

Do you see anything you like? What was your latest makeup haul?

October 23, 2010

Happy Saturday guys :) I wanted to do a couple of Halloween looks this year even though I'm not sure I'll go out for the actual Halloween night. I love the artistic aspect of a scary Halloween makeup. I guess that's why I'm not so big on Halloween these years: it's less about being scary and more about being slutty, lol!

Here's the look:

mmm

I more or less based this on a MissChievous makeup tutorial from last year and added more tears and stuff. I first used MAC Pure White Chromaline with a sponge to get my face all white. Then I buffed MAC Gesso e/s with a kabuki brush to set the white base. I used MAC fluideline in Blacktrack to draw a mask around my face with 242 brush. Then I did a smokey eye with NYX Black, Inglot #376 and #390. I used blacktrack and 219 brush to draw the tears on my cheeks and to line my eyes. I filled in my brows with NYX black and Quo small angled brush. I concealed my lips with Lise Watier Portfolio (the lilac and ivory shades), the used Inglot lip liner in #861 to draw an exaggerated lip shape. Lastly, I applied MAC Ruby Woo l/s on top.

I guess that was it, it was actually a pretty quick look to do. You just need a steady hand to draw the tears and the mask. The smokey eyes took less than 3 minutes for me as I do smokeys quite often.

Hope you guys like this look. I will try and do a couple more scary looks before Halloween is here :)

Hey guys! Good news, MY IPHONE IS FIXED!!!!! sorry about all the caps I'm just so excited. I was loosing my mind without my phone yesterday. I just left my phone in a sealed bowl of rice overnight as recommended in various online forums and let it be. I turned it on today at noon and it was working, yeyyyyy! Now I can go and have a good weekend.

I did a casual and simple look today with only liner and mascara on the eyes and purple lips a la MUFE Rouge Artist Intense #15. I wear all sorts of bright and dark lips but for some reason I don't think I can pull off this purple shade :/ What do you guys think? Maybe I should stick to vamp shades and bright red, coral and pink.

October 21, 2010

Hey lovelies! I'm having one of those unfortunate days when everything goes wrong. First I spent the first half of the workday covering up for someone else' screw-up, then at lunch time I went to get some things from my car when I dropped my iPhone in a big puddle of water :/ now obviousely it won't work. It's driving me nuts as I'm definitely addicted to my phone. I've put it in a bowl of rice as recommended in online forums so we'll see how it looks tomorrow. To make everything worse, I collided with some random guy on my way to the bathroom and my hand accidentally hit his *ahem* package! Yeah, just one of those days...

Anyway, here's my look for today to distract me from all the annoyance. In the meanwhile, please pray for the healthy recovery of my phone :/

After one week of absence, we're back to regularly scheduled Thursday polls. By the way, if you ever want to see a specific topic in a poll that I haven't done, please let me know. I'm always open to suggestions.

For today's post, we're gonna talk about eyebrows. You all know that eyebrows are basically what frame your eyes and hence crucial for a great FOTD. Full brows are also very much "in" this season and hence the reason for this poll. I have naturally long and arched eyebrows that I re-shape (professionally) every other weeks and tweeze in between. I used to never fill in my eyebrows. However, I decided that I looked more polished with some more colour in there. Especially since for some reason my eyebrows are a light brown shade instead of the chocolate brown of my hair. I use Benefit's Browsing in shade Dark to fill them these days.

Do you regularly fill in your eyebrows? If so, what product do you use?

October 20, 2010

I'm finally home so now I can play with my new makeup! I'm having less stressful days at work and the weather is nice (cool but sunny), I'm back to my regular blogging schedule... so in general all is great in the world again and I'm in a great mood. You all know how I like my burgundy shades, I thought I wear them with some of my favourite (old and new) gold pigments.

Let me know what you think :) Hope you all have a great Hump Day!

When I was in NYC, I made sure to hit up the Inglot store in NYC. I've heard praises for this brand and really wanted to check them out. My number one enabler was Miss. Tina, a.k.a The Fancy Face who does gorgeous colourful looks with shades from this brand.

Now, I went in with a small list in my hand but all that went outta window as soon as I got inside. I purchased a bit more than I thought but I just couldn't decide, lol! Everything I swatched, from eyeshadows to lipliners, was amazingly pigmented. There are so many different shades for every product, I felt like I was in a big girl's candy store.

Here's a peak at what I got plus some swatches. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding possible dupes, finishes... and I try to help as much as I can :) All swatches are on my NW25 arm (no base) and only one coat.

1. I got one of the Freedom palettes with 10 eyeshaows. You can custom build these palettes with eyeshadow, powder, blush, lipstick... I went for shadows only:

4. Finally, I purchased a couple of lip liners: dual ended #861 (cherry) and pencil #337 (berry):

Wow! that took a while but I think that was it as far as Inglot was concerned. Do you see any shades you like? What are some of your favourite Inglot products?

Me again! This is the look I wore to hubby's cousin's wedding. I went for a gray/burgundy look and the whole thing took 15 mins to do (we went out the night before so I slept in). The venue was amazing! The ceremony was held outdoors with a great view of the valley. The bride is a big tomboy so it was nice to see her all dolled up and girlie. She looked beautiful and had this glow about her. I'm just a big sucker for weddings!

Ok, so here's my quick and simple wedding look:

October 18, 2010

Hey lovelies! I'm back from my short but sweet vacation. We had last week off and visited NYC for sight seeing (3 days) and then drove to Baltimore for a wedding (3 days). We both had a blast. I did a tone of shopping in the land of low taxes (a.k.a USA) and it was nice to see some friends and families that we don't get to hang out with often.

I hardly wore any interesting makeup the entire trip (except for the wedding). For the most part, I did foundation, blush, liner, mascara and a bold lipstick. This was my go-to look almost 80% of the time, I took a pic for you guys to see, lol!

Here are a couple of pics from the trip for now. Hope you guys like them. The vacation was great I actually missed blogging :D

I haven't worn bright eye makeup in a bit it seems so last Friday I decided to get back into the bright groove. I love sunset shades so that's what I opted for. I also love the new Chanel Extrait de Gloss. They're pigmented and not as sticky as most glosses.

Hope you guys like this look :)

Hey guys! I'm on vacation now until Oct 18th but did a couple of scheduled posts to keep you entertained while I'm gone. The first of them is one of my current fave nail polishes, MAC Bad Fairy. This nail polish was released with MAC's Venomous Villains collection a couple of weeks ago. It's a complex shade to describe; I would say the base is a rosy red but has copper/orange reflects. It's absolutely beautiful! It does take some patience to apply though. The formula is on the thicker side and you'll need three thinner coats to get the best affect. But once you do, it's absolutely worth it!

Here's three coats of Bad Fairy on my nails:
